Gantry Crane

Description
Gantry crane is a deformation of the bridge crane. In the port, it is mainly used for bulk cargo handling operation. The hoist of this goliath crane is suspended from a structure where the girder is supported by doorframe that runs on floor mounted rails. When the gantry crane lifts loads such as railway cargoes, the transport cars can easily move beneath them.

Advantages
1. Goliath crane are particularly suited to lift very heavy objects. Huge cranes have been used for shipbuilding. The gantry crane straddles the ships allowing massive objects like ships' engines to be lifted and moved over the ships.

Application
Goliath crane is mainly used for outdoor handling operation, such as ports, warehouse, cement plant, construction site and hydropower station. Small girder cranes are often used at auto repair shops to lift the engines out of automobiles. Factories and warehouses frequently use large gantry cranes to move heavy objects from one location to another.

Types
1. According to the structure of the door frame, the crane can be classified into gantry crane and cantilever goliath crane.
2. According to the main beam structure, the gantry crane can be classified into single girder type and double girder type.
3. According to the main beam form, the goliath crane can be divided into joist type, girder type and cellular beams type.
4. According to the end-use form, the gantry crane can be separated into ordinary type and hydropower station type, shipbuilding type and container type.
